World No Tobacco Day emphasizes two key actions:

Promote smoking less until you quit:

Reducing harm: Reducing the amount of cigarettes smoked reduces the risk of disease (although the safest thing to do is to stop smoking altogether).

Toward quitting: Smoking less is often an important step in the quitting process. The goal is to eventually become completely free of tobacco dependence.

Resolve not to smoke in public places:

Protecting the health of others: This is one of the core messages of World No Tobacco Day. Smoking in public places is a violation of the right to health of others. It forces innocent bystanders, including children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with respiratory illnesses, to inhale toxic secondhand smoke.

Create smoke-free environments: Promote a ban on smoking in all indoor public places (restaurants, shopping malls, offices, transportation, etc.), workplaces, and outdoor crowded areas (e.g., bus stops, children's play areas in parks, hospital entrances, etc.).

Setting an example: Not smoking in public places, especially in front of children, helps reduce the social acceptability of tobacco use and prevents the next generation from picking up the habit.
